Application procedure

Applying for admission to IMFSE is done via the online application form + the hard copy submission of the application documents. If you want to apply for a scholarship, you fill in the scholarship application form. If you do not need a scholarship or missed the scholarship deadline, you fill in the self-sponsored application form. The following dates apply to the online submissions. Hard copies should be sent by the latest the day thereafter (post stamp).

The application deadline for scholarship applicants is 31 January 2019 (23h59 Belgian time)
The application deadline for self-sponsoring applicants is 30 April 2019 (23h59 Belgian time)

Throughout the online application process, you will be asked to upload digital copies of the following documents. It is advised that you start well in advance to collect this documentation.

  • A passport photo
  • A copy of your passport (or other official identification proof for EU students)
  • Legalised copy (*1) of your Bachelor's diploma (and Master's, if applicable) in the original language. The country of origin determines whether documents have to be legalised by the Belgian embassy, by apostille certification, by APS certificate, or are exempt of official certification. Check this overview.
  • A certified English translation of your Bachelor's and Master's (if applicable) diploma, unless the document was issued in English.
  • A legalised copy of your detailed Transcript of Records in the original language
  • A certified English translation of your Transcript of Records (unless the document was issued in English)
  • A copy of your English language test scores or language certificate (max. two years old). See also Language requirements
  • A motivation letter for the programme (1 A4-size page)
  • At least two recommendation letters.(*2)

Find more information regarding the legalisations here.

As soon as all the information is duly filled in, submit the application form. You will receive a unique application number and an automatic e-mail. This e-mail will contain all further instructions for the submission of the hard copy documents to the IMFSE main office in Belgium. Only completed application forms will be taken into consideration at the time of the selections.

Notes

(*1) Note: If no diploma has been obtained yet at the time of application, send a detailed Transcript of Records of the completed study years, as well as a signed statement from your university that the diploma is expected to be delivered prior to the start of the IMFSE programme. In addition, provide a legalised copy of your proof of registration or student card.
(*2) Note: if your reference person prefers to send their recommendation letter confidentially, please indicate if this is the case. Their letter can be sent by regular mail to our contact address. There is no template for the recommendation letters.

Selection Criteria

Pre-selection and admission decisions are based on a combination of factors, including academic degrees and records, language skills, the applicant's motivation, recommendations, test scores and relevant work experience (if applicable). The selection board may also take into account institutional reputation and international league tables.

In case of non-selection and if you have grounds to believe that your application file has not been processed properly through the selection procedure, you can start an appeal procedure by sending a letter to the IMFSE secretariat by registered post. The letter should clearly state the reason for the appeal. The appeal must be lodged within 30 days after the communication of the selection results from the IMFSE secretariat. The consortium will verify whether your file was eligible and whether the selection has been carried out correctly. The IMFSE secretariat will communicate by e-mail the outcome of the appeal procedure within 30 days after receiving the appeal letter.
